WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
WHO CAN FLY?
Ballooning is an enjoyable activity suitable for people of all ages; however, certain individuals may be advised not to participate due to safety considerations. To ensure a safe and comfortable experience, passengers must meet the following requirements:
- Be able to climb in and out of the basket independently.
- Be capable of standing unaided for the entire duration of the flight (approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour).
- Be able to walk on uneven terrain to access transportation shuttles.
- Have the upper-body strength and flexibility to climb into and out of the basket.
- Be able to adopt a bended-knee seated position during landing.
Passengers aged 5–17 must be accompanied by an adult. Due to insurance policy limitations, pregnant individuals and children under the age of 5 are not permitted to fly.
In accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations, hot air balloon pilots bear the responsibility for passenger safety and have the final authority to determine whether an individual is fit to participate in the flight.
HOW LONG DOES A BALLOON FLIGHT LAST?
HOW MANY PEOPLE FIT IN A BALLOON?
We operate several different sized balloons with our largest accommodating up to 8 passengers, weight permitting. For larger groups, please contact our office to schedule.
WHY IS THERE A MAXIMUM WEIGHT LIMIT ON PASSENGERS?
Each hot air balloon system has a maximum certified weight it can carry safely. This weight is affected by outside factors like ambient air temperature and altitude the balloon is flying. Based on these factors the maximum total passenger weight varies. Our booking system will automatically appropriate for proper weight. But before each flight, the pilot uses the passenger’s manifest weight provided to calculate how many passengers we can safely carry, and the basket is loaded accordingly.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY FLIGHT?
Most people find pants, long sleeves and a jacket suitable, think layers. Closed toe shoes are a must as you will be climbing into a balloon basket and may require walking through some rural terrain.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER PREVENTS US FROM FLYING?
Southern Utah offers exceptional weather conditions for hot air ballooning, with an average of 275 flyable days each year. However, weather can be unpredictable, and occasional rain or strong winds may impact flight schedules.
Our team closely monitors weather conditions, and if your scheduled flight date is affected, we will notify you promptly. In the event of inclement weather, you will have the option to either reschedule your flight at a convenient time or receive a full refund. Your safety and satisfaction remain our top priorities.
WHY DO BALLOONS ONLY FLY IN THE MORNING?
We want calm stable air to fly hot air balloons in. The calmest conditions occur before the sun has a chance to heat the Earth’s surface typically at sunrise.
CAN YOU STEER A BALLOON?
There is no direct way to steer a balloon, but pilots can climb and descend to find different wind currents. Most importantly, we evaluate wind conditions before each flight to plan the safest and most scenic route.
ARE YOU CELEBRATING A SPECIAL OCCASION?
If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, engagement, etc. Let us know when you book your flight and we will hang a celebratory banner for you and allow plenty of time for photos.
